Can Moses Be Superman?

When you read Exodus 18:13 it seems to be that Moses is superman. After his meeting with his father in low – in which he told him all the actions of God- the morning came and Moses left his leadership in order to judge his people, as written:

“And it came to pass on the morrow that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening” (Exodus 18:13)

superman

When a stranger or a guest come to a new place there are two ways to understand his visit: first, we are saying in Hebrew:”zar lo yavin”(a stranger won’t understand); second, we are saying in Hebrew :”Oreach le-rega’ ro’eh kol pega’”(a guest for a moment can see all the problems).

In this passage it seems to be that Jethrp understood as a guest that Moses cannot be a superman- he can’t do it all, he can’t judge all the people all day long and also be the leader. For that reason the words of Jethro can be used until today as a great feedback for any organization, as written:

“And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, what is this thing that thou doest to the people? Why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even? And Moses said unto his father in law, because the people come unto me to enquire of God: when they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.  And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good. 18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. (Exodus 18:14-18)

Superman can be just in movies. Moses can’t judge the people alone and for that reason I believe that a guest for a moment can reflect sometimes the best feedback that any organization need in order to be better.
