Genesis 33:4- when a kiss is just a kiss

After 20 years they didn’t meet, Esau and Jacob (Israel) finally met. Jacob prepared for this meeting in few ways: He sent a present to Esau; He divided his family to groups so if Esau would try to heart Jacob’s family- not all of the family will be heart, especially Joseph and Rachel!

And then they met, and the Bible is not hiding the emotions, as written:

“And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.”(Genesis 33:3-4).

Some commentaries try to lower this kiss and explained that the kiss wasn’t will all the intention, it wasn’t from the heart, it was only on the nose of Jacob, it was an average kiss.

I would like to claim that what is written is written and there was an important kiss from the side of Esau and the reason that they wept because it was a kiss of peace! And that’s it.

Sometimes a kiss is just a kiss, in that case a kiss of peace!
